Rules

Rules

1. Squad selection

At the beginning of the season you choose a squad of 25 players with the following restrictions:

1. You must choose at least one player from every club, with a maximum of 2 from any club (you can refer to the extensive data at Players, Clubs and Reports that outline the performance of every player in the English Premier League over the past 4 seasons).

2. There is no restriction in the number of players you choose in any position.

3. These players must be chosen from the Squad Selector page of the Extreme Team Football web site, where club squads with players and positions for each club are listed.

4. Changes to the squad can only be made during the transfer windows.

2. Transfer Windows

1. Transfer windows are the same as in the English Premier League and are open from 1 July to 31 August and during the month of January. During that period, you can make unlimited changes to your squad – maintaining that the squad selection guidelines are adhered to.

2. During those periods, there are also transfer of 'real' players in the English Premier League. This may result in a breach of the squad guidelines - in that case the rules outlined in Section 6 apply.

3. When a Player creates a squad, they have 7 days within which they can make changes to the squad, regardless of whether this period is outside the transfer window.

3. Team Selection

Each week you must select your team (or you can leave it unchanged from the previous week). You must choose 11 players plus 4 substitutes (total of 15 players) as follows:

  • The players must be selected from the squad you have chosen.
  • A starting 11 in the traditional 1-4-4-2 formation must be chosen with one goalkeeper, 4 defenders, 4 midfielders and 2 strikers.
  • 4 substitutes must be chosen. There is no restriction on the number of players you can choose in each position. However you may wish to choose one goalkeeper, one defender, one midfielder and one striker in order to give you cover in each position (see Note 1).
  • Only one player can be selected from each club.

Note 1: If any of your starting 11 doesn’t start, they will be automatically replaced by your substitute in that position. Note: if more than one of your starters and/or your substitute doesn’t start, you will not have a player in that position.

4. Deadlines

The 2007/8 season is comprised of 35 gameweeks. The selection deadline is usually 11.30am on the first day of the gameweek (usually a Saturday), and results are updated by 12.00am on the day following the last match of the gameweek.

You will see that three rounds have 20 matches (in the second week of the season and two rounds during the hectic Christmas/ New Year period). Therefore, although the season has 38 games for each club, there are only 35 gameweeks in Extreme Team Football.

Note that these fixtures are currently provisional as Sunday and Monday fixtures have yet to be announced, and cup commitments also result in fixture changes. This may result in a change to the times for selections and result updates. Any changes will be advised.

Details of 2007/8 gameweeks are outlined in Gameweeks.

5. Scoring

As noted above, only players or eligible substitutes that play in matches can score points. Points are scored based upon individual and team performance as follows:

  • Team (goals scored, goals conceded, win bonus)
  • Individual (starting the match, outfield goals scored, penalty goals scored, penalty misses, own goals, penalty saves, yellow cards, red cards, winning goal bonus, man-of-the-match bonus).

The points awarded for goals scored and conceded vary for each position (for example, the goalkeeper’s score is largely affected by team goals conceded whereas a striker’s score largely depends upon individual and team goals scored).

Full details of scoring are outlined in Scoring.

6. EPL Player Transfers

During the Transfer Windows, players in the EPL also change club. This can lead to squad selection rules being breached. In theis case, the following rules apply:

  • the team selection rules still apply
  • the transferred player, if already selected, will be replaced by a substitute if there is an available substitute for that position. If not, that position will be unfilled.
  • an email will be sent to you advising the breach and giving you 7 days to correct it.
  • after 7 days, if the player has not corrected the breach, the transferred player will be replaced by the highest scoring player in their position in their former club.

7. Administrative Stuff

7.1 Registration

To register, go to Register where you will need to provide some personal information before you can play Extreme Team Football. Extreme Team Football complies with the requirements of the Data Protection Act so all your personal information is safeguarded.

7.2 Leagues

Once you have registered and created a squad and team, you are entered into the overall Extreme Team Football League. You also have the option of creating and entering mini-leagues. These leagues can either be public or private leagues. To join a private league, you must respond to an email invitation sent by a member of that league.

7.3 League Administration

One person in each mini-league acts as the Chairman. The main powers of the Chairman are to delete members of the league, and to reset scoring after the beginning of the season.
